Aim
The aim of the Dementia Education and Training Program is to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia and their carers. The program is designed to provide access to courses that will enhance the knowledge skills of the carer which will assist them in their caring role.
Target Group
Carers of person with diagnosed dementia.
Objectives
To assist carer access to a range of courses that will enhance their skills. Courses may include, but are not limited to:
- Information about legal issues
- Managing behaviours of concern
- Health and wellbeing
- Where to find information about community support services and residential aged care
- Homemaking skills such as cooking, car and home maintenance
- Continence management
- Computer and internet use, such as internet banking, online shopping and email
- Personal care
How we work
- We provide assistance with fees to attend courses
- We can organise courses for groups of carers who have the same training needs
- We can organise short term respite to enable a carer to attend a training course
The process
- We will discuss with the carer when they contact our Centre any training needs they may have
- We link carers into existing programs that can meet their training and information needs
- We will discuss with the carer their respite needs and organise appropriate respite to enable them to attend the courses
- We will notify carers of dates and times of courses that are held
